What did I do???

in the final look I change the vanity to look more like vanity, more detail in vanity, and girl

I made the finished look of the hands that take the frames off the wall 

I couldnt find a frame i liked (that was free/stock) so before i buy an image online, this weekend  Im going to go frame hunting and take photos of them. Im also going to make the assets for the piece this weekend to be approved on tuesday

first opening shot- her picture in middle of wall instead of to the left 

I thought about the copy cat scene- I changed the animatic so that the characters are not doing the same motions at the same time instead the girl does a movement then the guy goes. I also added other limbs moving. The first time is only arms, the second is arms and head, the last is arms, head, and legs. I hoping it will come across as copy catting more..... 

I also decided that they would still end up in the trash together, I feel like them ending up in a frame together would be to predictable and also if they are bought by 2 separate people how do they end up in the same frame.....  I also feel that people dont always recognize the value in antiques. So they could easily be thrown away. Also silhouette pictures were, in the past, one of the cheapest ways to record a persons likeness - there are just so many out there!  But they do range in price and this is most likely do to who the subject or artist was and also the method used to create the silhouette.

also the updated look- Im thinking about playing with the line quality and the color on the hands a bit more, also the second set of hands is going to have longer nails and a ring

idea of final look

over the weekend I made a rough animatic, the final look, and changed a little of my script

class review-
first opening shot- her picture in middle of wall instead of side, change vanity to look more like vanity, more detail in vanity, girl, and guy. they want to see the finished look of the hands that take the frames off the wall and the other guy's frame.
Think about changing copy cat scene as its not coming across as well in the animatic as it did in the script. maybe they end up composited together instead off in the trash????

30th

So over wednesday I've written my script (its below), I also wrote my calendar on google and linked it (post before this). Since I am conjoining this class and my senior studio I will be doing the boy's scene, the scenes with both frames, and the scenes where its only the girls frame (not close up). In the other class I will do the Girl's close up scenes, the paying for the frame, and the trashcan scenes.
Story Structure break down

Act 1-

Inciting incident: the man tries to befriend the girl

Plot Point: the girl invites the man to tea

Act 2-

Midpoint: they realize nothing they do will get them out of their frames

Plot Point 2: Man gets sold

Act 3-

Climax: girl is taken out of frame

Denouement: she lands by the silhouette of man, they hold hands

SCRIPT


ACT I     INT . WALL OF ANTIQUE SHOP, SILHOUETTE PICTURE OF A GIRL HANGS ON WALL. NAILS POKE OUT AROUND HER LEAVING HER AS THE LAST PICTURE LEFT ON THE WALL


A silhouette picture of a girl hangs on a old wallpapered wall. She sits in front of a vanity, bored she rests her head on top of her hand leaning on the vanity. 

Two hands holding the frame of a man holding a gun and wearing a back pack enter the screen and place the frame on a nail beside the girl's frame. After hanging the frame the two hands exit the screen

CLOSE UP OF BOY'S FRAME

The man puts down his gun and bag, opens the bad and brings out a chair, he sits down and rest his head in his hands. After a few second the man lifts his head up and nods as if to say hello

CLOSE UP OF GIRL'S FRAME

the girl puts crosses her arms, tilts her head back, and ignores the man. 

SHOT OF BOTH FRAMES

man slumps his head back down on his hands.
The girl reaches in a drawer of her vanity and pulls out powder and starts to powder her face
The man starts to mimic her actions
The girl stops in the mid action, starting to realize what the man was doing. She moves her arm up then down and watches the man who also moves his arm up then down. The girl puts the powdering ball down and crosses her arms, the man follows suit.
The girl throws her hands down to her lap in frustration, and once again the man does too.
The girl starts to pat her legs and stomp her feet in a pattern, the man continues to copy cat her. The girl does another pattern this time a little bit more difficult and a little faster, and again the man mimics her.  Getting frustrated the girl does another even faster, but this time the man messes up. He messes up so bad the girl grabs her stomach with one hand, points at him with the other and start to laugh at the man. The man joins in laughing at himself.

CLOSE UP OF GIRL'S FRAME

The girl puts her powder back in vanity and pulls out a small table, a tea pot, and two cups setting them on the table. She pours tea into both cups, sets the tea pot down, then motions to a tea cup inviting the man to join her.

ACT II      CLOSE UP OF BOY'S FRAME

The man gets up dusts himself of and walks toward the girl's frame. The man runs into the side of his frame and falls down. The man gets up goes to the edge of his frame, puts his hands up trying to feel a way out, the man then stars to bang his fists against the wall.

CLOSE UP OF GIRL'S FRAME

The girl runs to her frame and also starts to push against it's side. she goes to her vanity and pulls out a bike, hops on, and pedals full speed toward the frame and crashes against its side.

CLOSE UP OF BOY'S FRAME

The man goes to his bag and pulls out a hatchet, goes to the frame, and starts to pound away at its side, but again nothing happens

SHOT OF BOTH FRAMES

The man motions for the girl to go further back in her frame. As the girl is moving back then man grabs his gun and once she is out of the way he aims to ward the side of his frame and fires. The bullet ricochets around his frame and into his chair, knocking it over.
The girl moves forward, kicks the table and slumps into a chair. The guy moves toward the frame and sits against its wall in defeat.

CLOSE UP OF BOYS FRAME

The man pops his head up, quickly gets up goes to his bag and reaches inside. He starts to pull a really big object out of his bag. The object turns out to be a door. The man leans it against the side of the frame, opens it, walks though and immediately appears on the other side of his frame. The man stomps over to the door and slams it shut.

CLOSE UP OF GIRL'S FRAME

The girl's face is in her hands and her shoulders are shaking from crying. she looks up a bit and blows her nose. Slowly she gets up from her chair and starts to put everything back in her vanity. Once every thing is put away she glance toward the man's frame. The girl does a double take and rushes to the wall of her frame

SHOT OF WALL WITH FRAMES THIS TIME ONLY GIRL'S IS THERE

The girl slumps to her knees as she realizes the man's frame is gone. she then slowly gets up and returns to the chair in front of her vanity.

ACT III     CLOSE UP OF GIRL'S FRAME

As the girl sits leaning on her vanity with her head in her hand, a customer's hands picks her frame of the wall.

New Idea!

so I thought about my review and I decided - to go ahead and do the project in after effects. 

I also changed my story idea-  2 silhouette pictures in an antique store fall in love but cant get to each other because of there frames. they try different ways to reach each other but none of them work. Then they get sold (at different times to different buyers),  their buyers' keep only the frames and throw the silhouettes away -but luckly in the same trashcan- where they get to be together moving from paper to paper free from their frames

      Notes: not predictable, needs more of a conflict, use silhouette for reason does it work with the story, computer or light box but defend why.  

the 4 questions and the idea of this year

For how long have I and why do I make art?

I’ve been making art since I was a little kid but I didn’t seriously dive in until I started high school.  Before high school I had just been doodling, but I noticed how I could get caught up and loose time just sitting with paper and pencils, so I decided to take the art classes offered at my school to see if I wanted to go further and maybe make a future with art. As soon as I started I couldn’t stop.  Art was the one class that really didn’t feel like a class.  I continue to make art because I get to create and enjoy the reactions others get from the creation, I start with nothing and then at the end have this finished project that can give others entertainment, and for most of the time I have fun making it so why not continue doing something I have fun doing. 

What are the sources of my ideas?

The sources of my ideas are most likely the same as everyone else.  I draw from everything that I’ve encountered during my life. I don’t even have to experience it first hand.  A lot of what I come up with is a combination of my life’s experiences and twists on what I’ve read and seen, plus what my imagination comes up with.  But overall we all pull our ideas from our lives; it is just that everyone’s is different. For example my family is a big factor in my life, so a lot of my animations deal with influence from them. 

What do I most want to develop during the class?

During this class I really want to develop the skills I already have even further. During the Dynamic Imaging 1 we were introduced to a lot of techniques. I want to take this and work with it more. I also would like to learn how to green screen on a small scale.  I want to try and combine stop motion and after effects, experimenting with and with out a green screen.  Then after experimenting with what I can do, I want to work on one big project.

Finally, what skills do I bring with me to the course?

We all bring different skills to this course. Most of us will all have common knowledge in programs such as after effects, logic, final cut, and toon boom.  But we all have different “odd skills or experiences”.  From babysitting and living with my nieces and nephews (3mth-5yr old) I have experience with kids so I have the skill of an insight to their imagination and how they act.  I’ve played multiple instruments (Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano…recorder…) so I’ve knowledge in music. 

For my project this semester I want to combined it with my senior studio.

The story I’ve been thinking of is a son looking back on the relationship he had with his father (regretting not spend more time with each other) and then deciding to change and be there more for his son

I like the aesthetic because with the silhouette you loose all the detail, which reminds me of memories – looking back I can remember doing things but I cant remember the fine detail of what the location or the people exactly look like. Memories are, to me, shadows of the actual person or experience. They can be vague in detail and overlap with other memories. Silhouettes have limited detail, the forms can overlap and they too are like shadows of the person or thing they represent.

So Im thinking of doing cut paper stop motion on a green screen and then keying it out but I haven’t decided on if I want to have images behind the silhouette or not….

I could do this all in after effects but with the stop motion the look of the animation is not computered precision but all hand manipulated.

 So I first need to learn to green screen on a small scale and see what I can do with and with out green screen

 Then I need to start characters design and story board/script

Then I have to make assets/

Start animating scenes

 Bring in scenes and key out green screen

 If I decide to do a background…I'll need to add it

 Export  to web, dvd creation
