new take

a different take on the tale of rumpelstiltskin

lies and Greed gets you no where

a girl captures a creature to use his skills to become queen
but her lie is becomes known and the creature gets the credit instead.

In a poor run down kingdom
A girl sees a creature turn dead crops to living crops she captures him. If you do this for me I will let you go.
She tells the king she can do this task
He says if she can shell be queen
In a field the girl has the creature turn the crops from dead to alive
But when he was done she didn’t let him go – for he would give her a source of riches always
To the kings promise she was to be queen but upon there wedding the king wanted to show the land how she made there kingdom prosper- this time in front of everyone a dead potted flower
She couldn’t give it life without the creature –she was reveled as a fraud, and had to give the credit to the creature
The woman was out casted from the kingdom and the creature was rejoiced as the savior of the lands

I stil want them to look some thing like

EL: The Untold story of how Rumpelstiltskin became the person we know him as.

How did Rumpelstiltskin become who he is?
This is a study of his character, told in a new story.
Shown on screen as an animated story book with flipping pages
1
A greedy leprechaun wants to become the ruler of the world

He makes a deal with the devil:
If he consumes the heart of a predestined (royal) infant then he will have the power of the darkness. ( this is because he’s killing and consuming something so pure you have the heart and conscience to possess the power of the dark)
But he only has one try and if he fails his soul goes to the devil.
2
(as a leprechaun he can give wishes, or in his case deals) He makes deals with a maiden to spin straw into gold (he has the power to make gold as he is a leprechaun) in hopes that by helping her the king will marry her and he will cunningly get her child
The first night he gets her necklace, the second her ring, but on the third night she has nothing left to give.
Rumpelstiltskin agrees to spin her straw again in exchange for her first born, and she agrees

The maiden and the king marry, and upon the birth of her son Rumpelstiltskin appears to collect his due
The queen begs for another deal in order to keep her child
Rumpelstiltskin agreed, “if you guess my name in three days time, you may keep your child. But if you fail the child is mine”
3
Each day the queen guessed wrong
The second night Rumpelstiltskin prepared for his feast, dancing around a fire,
“today I brew, tomorrow I bake
and then the prince child I will take
for no one knows my little game
for Rumpelstiltskin is my name”

the 3rd day arrived and the queen guessed his name, “ the devil told you” Rumpelstiltskin exclaimed as he stomped his foot so hard it went waist deep. He grabbed his other leg with both hands to pull him self out, and tore himself in two. And the devil then collected his due

10. have you know everything asked of you to do or have you had to teach your self new or forgotten things?
Mostly already Known, but little things have been shown to me, like tricks/tips, and things to consider

3 Big companies Id love to intern/work for:
Disney-Disney Pixar:
I chose Pixar because they worked against the odds off branching off classic 2D animation and into 3D animation even though many saw computer animation as technology only.  Pixar believed computer animation could be used to create something bigger. With the principles of classic animation and the technology of computer animation Pixar succeeded. To me Pixar is about inspiration, to inspire people to go beyond others perceptions.

Sony- Sony Pictures Animation:
Sony was going to sell Imageworks but couldn't find a buyer. They decided to try their hand at CGI animations. Sony Pictures Animation created Open Season and from it's success the Animation devision turned around a, at that time, failing part of Sony's company.  Sony could have cut Imageworks but instead Sony branched out and tried something new as a last hope. This decision turned out to be beneficial for them as on every project they have made more money than they put in to it. Not only do they have good animation they also aren't afraid to try new things.

Viacom-MTV Networks/ Nickelodeon:
Viacom has a strong business and entertainment grounding. The amount of entertainment brands they own is amazing.  Plus they also cater to all ages. From pre-schoolers with Nick Jr, to teens with Teen Nick, VH1 and MTV; to Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures for adults.

final idea....

I want to make a story book
with flipping pages- I found inspiration in the Tangled video below

I also really like the three brothers video - I might play with shadows and silhouette puppets or I might
use a lot of textures and composite them (like in the Secret of Kells)

The story Im thinking of is Rumpelstiltskin... or some other tale or myth but Im also wondering whether to make it light or dark. The original Rumpelstiltskin was a Grimm Fairy Tale and their stories aren't rays of sunshine - for example Rumpelstiltskin rips himself in to two at the end, that isn't seen depicted in many children stories.

I really enjoy the style of some of the drawings in the tangled video (when rapunzel is singing and mother gothel is brushing her hair)
I also really enjoy Dr. Seuss' style
I wanted to add this also---
Darker inspiration

Cut and Heal

So for the tutorial I picked I did healing cuts
The biggest part was making the cut and its harder than he makes it look lol
Theres also 3 comps and each have similar items so at times I forgot which one to be in. As I kept making them, it started to get smoother.

I couldn’t really think of a different way to use this… but I didn’t want to do human blood as humans cant heal them self I did blue blood like a alien creature.

Its separated in to three comps
first is the main comp you add most of the effects to make the cut to this.
The second comp is the Cut map it has the texture used for the cut and
The third is the precomp cut, which is the texture and the tracking and has the healing part.
Effects-
CCGlass- Bubbles= change softness and height (depth) of bubble change to alpha to go from a white texture to being transparent and look like footage underneath
Fill =fills are with color= add color wanted  with this you can play with opacity and change the modes (like color burn)
Fast Blur- blurs= change to amount of blur wanted
Curves-color levels=change to alpha and boost color
Simple Choker- disappear= something can fast or slowly disappear in to a central point
HOW TO :
CUT
The first thing I did was add the footage to a comp
Then right click and add tracking to the footage in the between the area where the cut is going to be.
Press the play (analyze) on the tracking side menu
And a null object, go to the tracking side menu press edit target apply it to the null (you can turn off this visibility)
Bring in the texture and place it where you’d like it (turning it to overlay may help you)
I Applied Curve to make the background of my texture white and to darken and sharpen the black
Select the cut texture and pre-compose it [Name it Cut Map] (this will put the curve and texture in its own comp.)
Make footage a guide (at end when rendering undo so it will render)[also make sure when copying footage its a guide in all other layers]
Open the Cut map Comp
Add a White Solid on the bottom (change the trackmap to L. Inv)
Take the pen tool and mask the part of the texture you want to be the cut.
Copy the footage form the first comp and paste it into the cut map comp

In the first comp duplicate the null (command_D)
Precompose one duplicate null with the cutmap  [name this PreComp Cut] (this way the tracking is in both comps)
Copy the footage form the first comp and paste it into the PreComp Cut

Go to first comp add CC Glass (effect, Stylize) to footage
Change Bump map to Cut Pre Comp, softness 0, property alpha, height 2, Dis 50 (these can be change to how you want it to look at the end)
Still in the First comp add Fill (effect, generate) to the pre comp (change to color you want)
give it a Classic color burn in its mode (you can play with the opacity in this)
Duplicate this layer and add fast blur (effect, blur) change level to 10
Add Curves, change to alpha and bust the color a little

Now you can go back to the footage and change the glass effect’s softness, height, lighting and shading.
HEAL
To heal you are going to go in your Pre Comp Cut composition and on the cut map add Simple Choker (effect, Matte)
Add keyframe to beginning of heal
Move to point where wound is completely healed and up the chocker to make the wound disappear
(play with the speed by adding and moving keyframes to get the look you want)

edits to fish loop and cones

so on the fish I edited the motion a little and puppet...ed?? their tails. I also edited the background.
On the cones I cleaned the characters up, shortened it, switched the titles, and had the mask go into their mouths.

Artist Lectures!!!!!

MEL CHIN ARTIST LECTURE

Mel Chin was very interesting, he had many "trades"  He is a conceptual artist focusing on politics, culture, and social circumstances.

He does sculpture, animation, installations, and is a the leader of Operation Paydirt (FUNDRED).

Over all he was a very enjoyable speaker to listen to and answered questions well. He made it a point to have the audience involved in his lecture.

I was really amazed at how much research he puts into his ideas, he not only learns the basics for his concept but he'll also research greatly in depth and teach himself things instead of relying on others.

I found it very interesting he worked with behind the sense of Melrose Place(GALA Project) -trying to make are effect people  giving TV more to offer - It didn't slam the idea into peoples faces but subtly questioned things

I really would like to view his animation9/11-9.11 -It surprised me that he created an animation, and it looked good showing his range of technical abilities.

Mitra Abbaspour

A curator for museum of fine art NY

This was very boring to me. It was extremely hard to follow along with what she was talking about. She’d get behind on changing slides and stumble through what she was saying. The most I got was that the Middle East events have wholes in the output of the information. And then she showed images of people and buildings from the past.
I feel like she could have presented this in a better and more interesting way. I understand that as a historian she would not be talking about art she made, but I still expected her to sound interested in what she was talking about. Most historians are so enthused by what they research it carries over in how they talk about it, but with Mitra i just lost that connection.

Chris Irick

Metals, jewelry
I really enjoyed seeing her work. It was all very inspiring and beautifully crafted. Though I wish her presentation had more life to it. I got rather bored, as her speaking style is a little monotone and she mostly read facts about each piece.  I really enjoyed her combination of Victorian and industrial influences in her work.
Her presentation was very well organized and very easy to follow along. Each work was well photographed and presented along with the info about it.
Work of hers i like:

write up and edit write up

This project took much longer than I anticipated but I over all like the feel of it. I need to go back and do more tweaking on timing and i'd love to add more to the change sequence of my character (i also need to check consistency lighting, puppet jiggles). Id also like to get sound- I was planning on hijacking sound from shows but it sounded weird by itself so im going to have to created a presence for it.
Rendering also took quite a while-
tools- the puppet tool has become my best friend! I used it so often it ads a nice touch.
ZONED

EDIT:
SO I edited the length of the intro, the 180 from the tv to a close up of his face, the pixel of the food, made the man a woman-ish lol hair and boobs, i want to do more to it so im defiantly going to work on it before finals! I added tv flickers and made him bigger when only seeing his feet and the remote (legs bigger and rolls out front). I also put a remote by his side while eating chicken
